Mental Health Media- The Center Cannot Hold

This series is for the PSA to share some of our favourite media that covers various topics in mental health and psychology.

Today’s Mental Health Media submission comes from our President, Shae!

“When I was in highschool, I wanted to study psychology. Due to a large detour in my life in part thanks to my own experience with mental illness, I never thought that I would be able to do so. My own time spent dealing with symptoms seemed to preclude me from academic or research success. Encountering Dr. Saks’s stunning memoir about her schizophrenia manifesting in the midst of high-stakes post-secondary education was life-changing for me, and can be credited with showing me that experiencing mental illness does not preclude me from trying to become the type of psychologist I want to be. Dr. Saks is Professor of Law, Psychology, Psychiatry, and the Behavioral Sciences at the University of Southern California Gould Law School, an expert in mental health law, a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship winner, and an advocate for those who live with mental illness.”

🚨 Content Warning: frank depictions of psychosis and delusion, discussions of suicide
